Nothing is as glorious as pure desert sand with endless rolling sand dunes, and we’re lucky to be surrounded by this magical landscape on our doorstep here in the UAE. You don’t have to trek too far, to find swathes of these magical golden droplets of precious stone that will take your breath away!

Before moving to Dubai I had never seen a desert, so my preconceived notion was of an arid baron setting with little life and certainly not a place of beauty – how wrong was I was!

The desert is far from baron, in fact, its rich in animal and plant life but you just have to look a little closer to find it, and when you do, it’s a magical feat.

Standing at 40 meters in height, and situated just 35 kilometer from Birds Ville; the famous Big Red Sand Dune provides a challenge for any four wheel drive enthusiast. The first of 1,140 parallel dunes in the Simpson Desert, the spectacular sunsets from the top of Big Red are an experience not to be missed. Bring a bottle of champagne and enjoy the sunset with family, friends or as part of a tour. Not to mention, if you’re here for the ‘Big Red Bash’ or ‘Birdsville Races’ you’ll share its beauty with hundreds of other locals and first time Outback travelers.
